Celebrations are a part of every family to share the joy with loved ones. Many occasions give us opportunities to gather at one place for such celebrations. How often do we spend such occasions meaningfully? When do we conclude that a celebration is successful? How do we overcome the possible hurdles of such joyful events? Sambhrama Deepa addresses these questions.
Truly speaking, everyday is an occasion to thank God and thus an occasion for celebration. More than 90% of biological activities within the body are involuntary. The Life force – Prana Shakti i.e. God controls them. Thus it becomes evident that we need to thank God who sustains our lives. A part of our celebration should be dedicated to the sweet remembrance of God. Expression of gratefulness to God is another objective of any meaningful celebration.
Fortunately, we are blessed with several such occasions like birthday, naming ceremony, thread ceremony, marriage, house warming and so on. Sambhrama Deepa tells us that at all these phases of life we get a nice opportunity not only to gather our friends but also to thank God.
Usually many of us become anxious about the proper organization of any function. By invoking the blessings of the Lord one can get rid of any such worries. During Sambhrama Deepa, which is usually conducted about a month ahead of the proposed function, relatives and friends gather to seek God’s blessings for warding off any unforeseen hurdles. During Sambhrama deepa, we discuss the deeper meaning of observance of such ceremonies. A pair of coconuts with husk is kept in the pooja room and aarti is offered daily to them till the function is conducted. Within a week of the conduct of the programme, the pair of coconuts must be used to prepare the prasadam and be distributed among members of the family.
